Akshit is an Indian qualified lawyer with seven years of professional experience working in New Delhi and London. He holds an Advanced LL.M. from Leiden University, The Netherlands in International Dispute Settlement and Arbitration, where he graduated cum laude.

After his masters, Akshit went onto complete a stint at a leading arbitration practice in London before moving back to New Delhi. His arbitration experience includes working on disputes in the energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, and aviation sectors. His mandates have included representing investors and sovereign States in ICSID and ad hoc investment arbitrations, as well as large corporations in commercial arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, and UNCITRAL Rules. 

In India, he continues to provide counsel and represent clients in high-value commercial, insolvency and bankruptcy disputes, construction and civil disputes. His practice also includes arbitration related court proceedings for interim measures, setting aside, and enforcement of domestic and international arbitration awards. He regularly appears before the Delhi High Court, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, National Company Law Tribunal apart from other fora and arbitration tribunals. 
 

Arbitration

  • Represented an Indian aviation service provider in its USD 450 million claims in an Indian seated domestic arbitration against an Indian state-owned entitled.

 

  • Represented an Indian Company in a London seated arbitration conducted under the LCIA Rules and successfully negotiated a settlement.

 

  • Represented a Singapore based venture fund in a multi-million-dollar infrastructure dispute in an Indian-seated arbitration proceeding, as well as related court proceedings.

 

  • Represented a publicly listed Indian infrastructure company in a USD 135 million pre-arbitral provisional measure proceeding brought by a Chinese multinational power generation company.

 

  • Worked on a matter for a European State in a multi-billion dollar investor-State dispute in the nuclear energy sector before an ad hoc tribunal under the UNCITRAL Rules.

 

  • Worked on a matter for an investor in its claims arising out of an infrastructure dispute against a Middle Eastern State under an OIC Agreement.

Litigation

  • Representing ANI Media in the first-of-its-kind intellectual property suit against OpenAI for unauthorised use of copyrighted content by ChatGPT before the High Court of Delhi.

 

  • Represented a listed Company in proceedings challenging illegal recall of credit facilities of INR 300 crores by three nationalized banks before the High Court of Delhi.

 

  • Representing a steel and power company against a public sector undertaking in its claims in excess of INR 1000 crores arising out of a breach of contract before an Indian-seated arbitration tribunal.

 

  • Represented the Managing Director of one of India’s largest dry cell battery manufacturers in suo moto anti-trust proceedings initiated by the Competition Commission of India.
